Plank - Finish

Oiled finished floorboards

We use Woca natural oils without any artificial dyes, aromatic substances and preservatives. The oils have I.B.R. DIN 53 160 and EN 71-3 certifications.

In our offer we have also the floorboard finish with the oils – colorless, white in light tones, white in deep tones, grey, dark brown, black, antique; however, on customer’s request we are able to pick almost every color.

We also offer the floorboards finished with two colors, e.g. black and white.

Adventages

  • The floorboards are better protected since the oil permeates deep into the wood, preserving and imbuing it
  • The oil does not glue floorboard edges together, which sometimes happens during varnishing
  • Oil finished floorboards can be renovated on smaller surface without the need of general repair of the whole floorThrough using the oils we keep natural structure of wood – it is clearly perceptible by touch

Care

Only Woca products can be used for our floorboards care, look at Instruction for wooden flooring operation.

Structured floorbards

In our offer we have also structured floorboards. As opposed to already existing on the market scratched or brushed floorboards, ours are characterized by a diverse structure – from very deep with the clearly noticeable grain to the very delicate one.

Structured floors well imitate ancient floors lying in rooms for years.

Structured floor must not be scraped since it would destroy its characteristic appearance. Structured floors are especially useful in rooms exposed to the increased risk of damage, e.g. in a workshop, a nursery or when there is a dog in a flat.

Technical data

We produce the floorboards of European wood from sawmills holding FSC certification. The wood is dried in computer-controlled drying rooms. The process lasts about 4 weeks until the wood reaches 9% moistness, that is the floorboard moistness.

CAUTION! The floorboards must always be laid by a professional contractor. On your personal request we can contact you with a parquet company.

Storage, transport, exploitation

Wooden floors, similarly to other solid wood products should be stored in a dry and airy place. Ready goods must not be exposed to sunlight and precipitation. In no case, the goods can get damp. Packages with the finished goods should be isolated from the ground; we recommend setting on polystyrene foam or on a wooden pallet. The room must be heated. It is important to keep constant climate in the room – 18-22 °C and humidity of 40%-60% (not exceeding 60% and not falling below 40%).

Finished floorboards can be unpacked (remove plastic wrap) directly before laying on the floor.

Transport

The goods can only be transported in covered vehicles. During the transport, care should be taken to secure the packages so they would not move and the goods would not be exposed to weather (sunlight, rain, snow, excessive humidity).

Submitting claims for goods

Humidity of our floorboards at the time of receipt from our company is 7-11%. All comments and reservations must be submitted prior to laying.

The floor must be perfectly smooth, and its moistness must not exceed: 2% in the case of cement surface; 8% in the case of wooden surface and 0,5% at the anhydrite substrate. Measurements are taken by a parquet company with the use of appropriate tools.

The floorboards should be laid after all other repair work (laying tiles, plastering, pre-painting walls) being mindful of appropriate expansion joints (at least 10 mm from walls) secured with appropriate finishing profiles. We recommend laying the boards perpendicularly to the direction of sunlight.

Exploitation

Felt pads should be glued to baseboards and furniture legs, and in the case of chairs on wheels protective mats should be used.

Before entering rooms with floorboards, one should use doormats since sand is the main factor causing abrasion.

Do not place pots directly on the floor.

Spilled liquid should be wiped immediately.

High heels, the so called stilettos, leave imprint on the surface.

Care

After laying the floor, wait about 2 weeks so that glue could bind and the wood has time to “work.”

If the surface is finished directly on the construction site, the floor should not be overused after varnishing or oil finishing for about 10 days.

Before using varnished floors, it is advisable to first take care of the surface according to varnish manufacturer’s recommendations. Only agents recommended by varnish manufacturers should be used. Using inappropriate agents can lead to varnish damage, especially to its softening.

Instructions for the use of oil-finished floor

Oiled floors give a sense of special and natural climate in an apartment. During the processing, oil permeates deep into the wood and there, through hardening, protects it from the inside. On the surface, there is no outer layer, which supports the positive properties of wood and makes it easier to care. Woca oils, which are used by us, are produced exclusively from natural ingredients and do not contain any artificial coloring, flavoring or preservatives. They have I.B.R. DIN 53 160 and EN 71-3 certificates.

In order to enjoy such a floor for a long time, it has to be properly cared for since the very beginning. Over time, oiled floor becomes more and more resistant to wear as the floor care increases its resistance to dirt and prolongs its life.

Care set

In the care set you have received:

  • Floor soap - for washing oiled floors

  • Intensive cleaner - for thorough washing or the removal of persistent stains

  • Care oil - for spot repair and renovation of floors

  • Pad for rubbing in - for oil rubbing

  • Cotton rag - for oil polishing

Directly after laying oiled floor, care-preservative oil should be applied.

Machine oiling:
  • 1. apply the oil with a short pile roller (before, mix the oil well by shaking the container)

  • 2. after 20-30 min. (not longer – the oil starts to gel) rub the oil in with a single disc floor polisher with a brown or green pad

  • 3. remove the excess of the oil with a rubber squeegee or plate so that there is no oil on the surface

  • 4. polish the floor until it is dry (with a white pad)

  • 5. the floor dries 4-6 hours at 20oC with good ventilation possible walking areas should be covered with a corrugated board

  • 6. the oil is hardened up to 36 hours; that is why, furniture should be put after at least 2 days

  • 7. do not wash the floor for the first 3-4 days

CAUTION!!! The risk of spontaneous combustion!

Used rags soaked with oil should be soaked in water and dried in the open air or burnt.

Hand oiling:
  • 1. apply the oil with a short pile roller (before, mix the oil well by shaking the container)

  • 2. after 20-30 min. (not longer – the oil starts to gel) rub the oil in with a cotton rag mop (we recommend the use of flat mops), rub in until pore saturation

  • 3. remove the excess of the oil with a rubber squeegee or plate and polish with a pad or a cotton rag until it is dry – oil layer cannot remain on the surface

  • 4. the floor dries about 24 hours at 20oC with good ventilation possible walking areas should be covered with a corrugated board

  • 5. the oil is hardened up to 36 hours; that is why, furniture should be put after at least 2 days

  • 6. do not wash the floor for the first 2-3 days

CAUTION!!! The risk of spontaneous combustion!

Used rags soaked with oil should be soaked in water and dried in the open air or burnt.

Daily care

Daily care of the oiled floors limits to vacuuming (with a soft tip) or sweeping. Occasionally – usually once every 1-2 weeks the floor should be washed with floor soap. The soap not only cleans but also creates a renewable protective layer, which also protects the floor against dirt.

IMPORTANT!!! do not wash the floor with clean water, beacuse it removes protective soy and coconut fats. Do not use rags or mops with a hard structure – "scrubbing" ones with microfibre, since they destroy the surface and the floor "grays".

For cleaning, use 2 buckets. In one bucket, mix floor soap with warm water in the ratio of about 100-150ml to 5 liters of water. The other bucket with clean water is used to rinse the mop. Wipe the floor along the boards. Before the next immersion in the soap solution, rinse the mop in the clean water and collect dissolved dirt. Change the water in the second bucket, depending on the degree of dirt. Pay attention so that after wiping the floor there are no water stains. Local dirt can be removed with a cloth soaked in a soap or solution of soap. Wipe heavily dirty place and leave it to dry. If necessary, repeat the procedure.

In the case of heavy dirt or the signs of floor wear, perform a partial or comprehensive renovation of the floor – first, wipe the floor with intensive cleaner (in the ratio of about 1 dl to 5 litres of water) and after drying the floor (about 4-8 hours) once again apply the care oil.

Stain removal

Stubborn stains are removed with intensive cleaner – spill liquid on stains and leave it for a short time – then, wipe it off if it is necessary to repeat the procedure. In the case of difficult stains, dirty place should be lightly ground with 360-400 –grit sandpaper and once again oiled with the care oil.

Floor renovation

If after a long use the floor becomes matt or grays, it can be refreshed with the care oil. In the first year of use additional oiling is recommended (once a year or as needed). Before oiling, the floor should be thoroughly wiped with intensive cleaner, which effectively dissolves dirt, grease and old soap scum from the outer surface of the wood. We use two buckets.

In one bucket, mix about 100-150ml of the cleaner with 5 litres of warm water. The other bucket with clean water is used to rinse the mop. Wipe the floor along the boards. Before the next immersion in the solution, rinse the mop in the clean water. Change the water in the second bucket, depending on the degree of dirt. Pay attention so that after wiping the floor there are no water stains. After washing and drying the floor (about 4-8 hours) the care oil must be applied – mechanically or manually.

IMPORTANT!!! The oil layer cannot ramain on the floor.

CAUTION! The danger of spontaneous combustion. Rags, sponges etc. after oiling should be burnt or soaked in water.

After about 4-6 hours (at min. 18-20°C) the floor is suitable for cautious use (possible walking areas should be covered with corrugated board, corrugation to the bottom). For the first 2-3 days do not wash the floor.
